One of the tour stops of the “White Horse Theatre”, which is one of the largest educational theatres, was amongst other places/destinations/venues our MGM. They performed two plays, one for the 6th grade and one for us 12th graders, with the title: “Twelfth Night or What You Will”, by William Shakespeare.
The identical twins Viola and Sebastian are separated, due to shipwreck and each of them thinks the other one is dead. In Illyria Viola disguises herself as a man named Cesario, in order to work for duke Orsino, whom she quickly falls in love with. But Orsino only has eyes for the princess Olivia, who in turn falls in love with Cesario, not knowing that he is actually a girl. The love story gets even more complicated when Sebastian arrives and gender confusions continue.
The White Horse Theatre's staging is, definitely, worth watching. The actors did a great job changing into other characters with different clothes incredibly quickly. Furthermore, all the sound effects and all the music were made by the actors themselves. Even though most students are not easily impressed by theatre, we were all watching carefully and laughed a lot, since complicated love stories never get old-fashioned. Sometimes, we struggled to understand Shakespeare's early-modern English, but we could follow the plot anyway. After they had finished the play, the four actors answered our questions and we found out that they are all only in their mid-twenties and have a great passion for acting and making music, as you could tell from their great singing skills.
